Terms of Service

Important: SavingsBox is not a bank. Payments and money transmission are handled exclusively by Stripe Payments Company, a licensed money transmitter. AI spending analysis requires your separate, explicit consent and uses Plaid transaction data processed in real-time — raw transaction data is never stored by The Savings Box Inc.

1. About SavingsBox

The Savings Box Inc. ("SavingsBox," "we," "us," or "our") is a financial technology company incorporated in the United States. We operate the SavingsBox consumer savings application and the SavingsBoxPro platform for licensed finance professionals. SavingsBox is a technology platform, not a bank. We do not hold, custody, or transmit funds directly. All payment processing, fund custody, money transmission, and financial account services are provided by our licensed third-party partners, including Stripe Payments Company (a licensed money transmitter) and Plaid Inc. Funds held in your SavingsBox wallet are held by Stripe's FDIC-member banking partners, not by The Savings Box Inc.

2. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using the SavingsBox or SavingsBoxPro applications or website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use our services. We reserve the right to update these terms at any time with at least 14 days' notice of material changes. Your continued use of the service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. resident with a valid U.S. bank account to use SavingsBox. You must not be prohibited from receiving financial services under U.S. law, including OFAC sanctions lists. By using our services, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone at any time.

4. Account registration and identity verification

To use SavingsBox, you must provide accurate, current, and complete identification information including your full legal name, date of birth, residential address, and government-issued identification. Identity verification is performed by Stripe Identity on our behalf in compliance with applicable Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) requirements under the Bank Secrecy Act. Your Social Security Number (last 4 digits) is transmitted directly to Stripe Identity and is never stored by The Savings Box Inc. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. Notify us immediately at legal@thesavingsbox.com of any unauthorized use.

5. Savings boxes

Personal savings boxes are individual savings goal products. Group savings boxes allow multiple verified users to save toward a shared goal. By joining a group box, you agree that all members must complete identity verification before contributing, that group boxes are savings products and not investment vehicles, lending instruments, or rotating credit associations, that funds are held until the goal date or early closure, and that payouts are proportional to each member's contributions. Misuse of group box functionality for purposes other than collaborative savings may result in immediate account termination.

6. Financial services and AI coach

SavingsBox provides savings management tools and an AI-powered financial coach named Maya, powered by the Anthropic Claude API. Maya's responses are for informational and educational purposes only. They do not constitute personalized financial advice, investment recommendations, tax advice, or legal guidance. Maya is not a registered investment advisor or licensed financial professional. Always consult a qualified financial professional before making significant financial decisions. SavingsBox does not provide investment advice, guarantee any rate of return, or manage investment portfolios.

7. AI spending analysis and bank transaction data

With your explicit, separate consent, SavingsBox may use transaction data accessed through your linked bank account (via Plaid) to provide AI-powered spending analysis through Maya. By enabling spending analysis, you authorize SavingsBox to: access your bank transaction data through Plaid for the purpose of generating spending summaries; pass anonymized spending summaries to Anthropic's Claude AI to generate personalized financial insights; display categorized spending data and AI insights in the SavingsBox Analytics screen and AI coach. You acknowledge that: raw transaction data is never stored in SavingsBox databases; transaction data is processed in real-time and only AI-generated summaries are used to power the feature; you may revoke this consent at any time in Profile settings without affecting your bank account link; consent to spending analysis is distinct from and does not affect your general use of SavingsBox or your linked bank account; and this feature is governed by both this agreement and Plaid's End User Privacy Policy at plaid.com/legal.

8. Fees, payments, and subscriptions

All payment processing is handled by Stripe Payments Company. SavingsBox does not store your full payment card details. SavingsBox offers a free tier and a Premium subscription. SavingsBoxPro offers Basic and Premium professional plans. Subscription fees are billed monthly and are non-refundable except for confirmed billing errors. See our full Cancellation and Refund Policy at thesavingsbox.com/cancellation for complete terms. We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice to existing subscribers.

9. Bank account linking (Plaid)

Bank account linking is facilitated by Plaid Inc. By linking your bank account, you authorize Plaid to access your account information for verification and payment initiation purposes. If you separately consent to spending analysis, you additionally authorize Plaid to provide transaction history to SavingsBox for AI analysis purposes. Plaid's access is governed by Plaid's End User Privacy Policy at plaid.com/legal. You may disconnect your bank account at any time. Disconnecting your bank account automatically revokes spending analysis consent and removes our access to your transaction data.

10. Finance professionals (SavingsBoxPro)

Finance professionals on SavingsBox are independent contractors, not employees or agents of The Savings Box Inc. SavingsBox does not endorse, warrant, or guarantee the advice, services, or outcomes provided by any professional. SavingsBox verifies professional licenses at onboarding but does not provide ongoing license monitoring. Users are encouraged to independently verify professional credentials. SavingsBox earns a platform fee on completed appointments, disclosed to both parties at booking.

11. Third-party referrals

SavingsBox may present offers or recommendations from third-party financial service providers, including through Maya based on your spending data (if consent given). These referrals are provided for informational purposes and SavingsBox may receive compensation when you engage with them. We will disclose such relationships at the point of referral. Third-party services are governed by those providers' own terms and privacy policies.

12. Prohibited activities

You agree not to use SavingsBox to violate any applicable law or regulation; engage in money laundering, terrorist financing, or structuring transactions to avoid reporting requirements; provide false or fraudulent identity information; use group boxes to operate unlicensed lending, credit, or investment schemes; access another user's account without authorization; reverse engineer or decompile our applications; or use the platform for any unauthorized commercial purpose. Violations may result in immediate account termination and referral to law enforcement.

13. Not a bank — important disclosures

SavingsBox is not a bank and is not FDIC-insured in its own right. The Savings Box Inc. does not hold a banking license, money transmitter license, or investment advisor registration. Fund custody and money transmission are provided by Stripe Payments Company, a licensed money transmitter. Funds are held at Stripe's FDIC-member bank partners. Bank account verification and transaction data access are provided by Plaid Inc. SavingsBox does not guarantee deposits or any rate of return.

14. Intellectual property

SavingsBox and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by The Savings Box Inc. and are protected by United States and international intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of our services without our written permission.

15. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, The Savings Box Inc. shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform, including loss of funds due to third-party payment processor failures, unauthorized account access, professional advice received through SavingsBoxPro, or decisions made based on AI-generated spending insights from Maya. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the greater of the total fees paid by you to SavingsBox in the three months preceding the claim, or one hundred dollars ($100).

16. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your account at any time, with or without cause or notice. Upon termination, your right to use the service will immediately cease, spending analysis consent is automatically revoked, and Plaid access tokens are deleted from our systems. Any funds held in your wallet will be returned to your linked bank account within 5-10 business days. Provisions of these terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive.

17. Governing law

These Terms of Service shall be governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction.
